Chypre Toscano: The Lovechild of Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood?

Chypre Toscano: The Lovechild of Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood?

What would you think if Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood had a baby? They would call it Unique’e Chypre Toscano.

So, we added Unique’e Luxury to our scope of perfumes, and even though I already had Kutay in my collection—which I like but don’t love—the entire line intrigued me. Don’t get me wrong, Kutay is an amazing fragrance, and its quality is out of this world! But it comes very close to Baraonda by Nasomatto. Is that a bad thing? Not really! However, those who follow my reviews know that uniqueness (hmmm, sounds like Unique’e 😊) is one of the most important factors for a fragrance to make it into my top 20.

Kutay checked all the right boxes, so I couldn’t wait to try more from this line.

For my selection, I initially had Crush on Me and Beverly Hills on my list. But instead of following my own nose, I asked Nikki to pick two fragrances for me. She chose Istanbul as the first and Chypre Toscano as the second.

First Impression

When I first smelled Chypre Toscano, it was a very good fragrance, but not one that immediately opened a new world for me. Straight from the bottle, it smelled like a classic leather fragrance in the vein of Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, Ombre Leather, Rasasi La Yuqawam, Kajal Homme IV,and many others—basically, all great fragrances. Yes, there was something different about it, but nothing that would have made me pick Chypre Toscano over the others… However, since it was Nikki’s choice, I was forced to give it a try—leaving Crush on Me, which had intrigued me, behind.

I sprayed it on Saturday around 1:00 PM, and it immediately exploded! Wow! The opening was incredibly promising. The leather was very prominent—not animalic, yet not a suede-like leather either. I tried to decipher the undertones and sensed a fresh, woody nuance. If I mentally removed the leather, it felt like I was smelling Oud Wood. To confirm, I checked if the scent was lingering on my clothes, and yes—it was definitely Chypre Toscano.

Performance & Wear

I went downstairs, got into my car, and almost choked my son and wife! 😅 My 4-year-old daughter, on the other hand, backed me up, saying the fragrance smelled nice. This overwhelming presence of a powerful fragrance was something I had missed.

In the cold weather, it performed perfectly, especially in combination with my leather jacket. This fragrance walked side by side with me the entire day and never left me—not even when I went to bed at 1:00 AM. Every single moment of the day, people around me noticed the fragrance, and it remained solid throughout.

Final Verdict

This is an amazing leather fragrance! Did it scramble my top 20 list? Not yet, because while it does something different than Tuscan Leather, Ombre Leather, Kajal Homme IV,and Rasasi La Yuqawam (which, let’s be honest, has lost some of its power over time), it doesn’t completely reinventthe leather genre.

One thing is certain: Unique’e Luxury deserves full credit for making powerful and high-quality fragrances. Whether you like a particular scent or not, there’s no denying the top-tier craftsmanship. The look and feel of a Unique’e bottle give me Amouage vibes, but where Amouage has lost its grip on projection, sillage, and longevity, Unique’e is delivering one masterpiece after another.

In my top 20, Ombre Leather by Tom Ford was at position 18, but it was later replaced by Kajal Homme IV. Personally, if I were to rebuild my collection, I wouldn’t have more than one leather fragrance. The question now is:

Leather-woody-fresh (Chypre Toscano) or leather with a hint of sweetness (Kajal Homme IV)?

Hmm… it’s a tough decision, but knowing that Nikki loves Chypre Toscano, I think this will be the one to officially enter my top 20.
